Surfer caught up in big backwash at Trigg Beach

Mrs Coops has been interstate for a few days so I've had a couple of little helpers out on my shoots. Last time, my "assistants" tried to take over the water housing and flippers and basically caused chaos. This time I kept them in front of the lens. Little posers they are! That's one way to keep them "out of the way".

It was this good…just over a week ago!! // Spot X on Thu 25.08.2011
Dark clouds hang overhead in Western Australia today…literally and metaphorically. The whole surfing community's thoughts go out to the young bodyboarder taken by a shark near The Farm in Bunker Bay yesterday. It's a time to reflect and make sure that you're getting everything out of life that you can. Live every day to the max!

I'm still amazed that you can score a fun, barrelling bank to yourself in the Perth metro area! How's the contrast between photos 2 and 3? No trick photography here. Just a guy enjoying a mid morning solo session. We've had some cracking waves in the last week. Not only in Perth but over in Tahiti as well. Surf, take photos, stream Teahupoo live…it's all been going on.

I've been heading down south a bit lately with a few guys to try to score an offshore bombie. We haven't had the perfect conditions yet but as dear old mum says…persistence pays off. I can only show you an empty wave at this stage as the other shots are going elsewhere.

We've finally had a taste of some of the winter conditions that we come to expect in Perth. Cyclical ground swells have greeted us for the past few weeks and with the tail end of these we are seeing offshore winds and clear days. There seem to be banks around every sand dune. Places that I've rarely or never seen break have been firing!
