You've got to be in the loop to get the heads up on a sneaky bank that's just started to pump. Text messages flying around…"get on down to XXXX it's got sik pits". After already doing a shoot on Friday arvo, we received one of these text messages. Back to the beach we went!

We've had some extreme changes in the weather this past week. Last Tuesday I was out taking advantage of a still night with clear skies, capturing some long exposure photos. Sunday & Monday I was down in Margaret River looking to get some shots of the predicted 7.0m swell...but instead took a beatdown by the 50+ knot winds.

You know what they say in the real estate market…location, location. It's pretty much the same for surf spots. Except I can't tell you the location! If you know it, then you know it. If not, then don’t ask. Needless to say, this location was catching some swell. A crew of pro bodyboarders were charging it and getting some deep, slabby pits.

I've just spent the last week down south at Yallingup with the family. I'm still amazed at how bright the stars seem when you're in the country. I was doing a bit of star gazing last night and thought that I'd break out the tripod and shutter release cable and get some star trail photos (It's where you leave the shutter open for quite a long time and the stars will leave a trail across the image). It was super cold but worth the effort.

It still surprises me what a 1.4m swell produces in the south west. If you're on the pulse, there are always a few small wave locations with a bank that's working. We scored a fun session at one of these beaches over the weekend. Lucky for me I got off a few photos then was able to have a paddle as well. Life's good.
